Badoo, the social network which has been criticised for
being the Facebook for sex, has become the world's fourth-largest with over
132million worldwide and over one million in the UK. It advertises itself as a place
to “boost your social life. Chat, flirt, meet up and have fun!”
Badoo has become one of the most visited websites in the
world with some estimates suggesting that well over 100,000 new users are
signing up every day.
Badoo is based in London
and owned by a Russian entrepreneur called Andrey Andreev.
It does not carry adverts but charges for some aspects of
its services. It had been said to generate $100m a year in revenues.
What are you thoughts on a social network which allows users
to find potential partners? Do you think it should be praised or persecuted?

First of all, why would a person want to put themselves through the hassle and even risk of turning to social network as a solution to their love life? Don’t get me wrong, I understand that there are individuals that are looking to simply have “fun” as it’s been stated – whatever that may mean these days. However, if a person is looking for a true meaningful, long-term relationship then, although tempting, social media would not be on my list of recommendation. So, no social network that allow user to find potential partners should not be praised, neither should it be persecuted, but what it should be is ‘carefully considered’.
ReplyDeleteFair enough the angle of this social network is not appropriate in my personal opinion. Though if this guy who created this site is brining in $100 million revenue every year without adverts, you have got to give him props, he must be doing something right to get people to be splashing the cash.
