CS3010 Social Web 2011-12: A window through the walls of our learning space. This is an interactive learning ecology for students in our CS3010 Social Web module. This ongoing dialogue is as rich as YOU make it. Visit often and post your comments freely.
Steve Jobs has been much eulogised in the last week since his death, but few people truly recognise the profound effects he had on the way we live our lives today.
The near ubiquitous web, even in it's basic form, provides a vast interconnected mesh of facts, thoughts and ideas such that there is almost never a question where the answer is not at our finger tips, but can our education system, and the world, keep up with such a radical new way of thinking and learning?
Social capital is not a new concept, but the way trust is earned and spent online provides an interesting background to the success of the gamification of more traditional forms of online social interaction.
The increasing quantity of personal information given up freely by individuals has highlighted the potential privacy issues of social web since, at the very least, the beginning of the new millenium; but some people are finding security and anonymity hiding in this overwhelming swell of information.
The allure of a strong online following can be intoxicating to brands, but when misappropriated and poorly applied, does this actually convert into consumers or is it just the latest "cargo cult" advertising strategy for the Internet age?
Technology has transformed education and businesses by offering increased efficiencies, providing new channels and in some cases generating entire new areas for research or productisation. Theses changes are finding their way into the not for profit and charity sectors to astounding success.
Social gaming has had a huge influence on the Internet using population but what effect does this often compulsive behaviour have on society as a whole?
