Overhauling of e-learning environment.

Social media site founder Reid Hoffman of LinkedIn and former vice president Matt Cohler of Facebook will be part of the e-learning overhaul. The social media site will allow teachers along with other academic professionals to share and exchange knowledge on subject matters. The overhaul of the site is Edmondo.

The ambition of the overhaul is to make the site resemble Facebook and can be used in a similar way but with without the whole “social aspect” to a certain extent. Users will be able to create a profile page and upload a user photo. The main focus is professionalism, teachers being able to share tips and educational information. Mr Cohler said “ People are using it to share content with other teachers, they're using it to do homework assignments and grade assignments and manage their classrooms. It's quite a unique and important offering."

I think that the overhaul of this site based on the layout of Facebook will be successful as people will be used to the layout so navigation of the site will not be a issue to many users. Because it’s based on a already popular site users won’t be “ashamed” or “embarrassed” to use it as it may seem “cool” to their peers. I like the idea of professionals being able to share their knowledge online via a forum layout as input from others can be added.

  1. I think this will be a great idea you know, maybe more so for students in secondary school and sixth form, simply because in university we have things such as u-link and blackboard, but maybe lecturers will be able to utilise some aspects of this new social networking site for teachers. I really like it and will be looking forward to it.

  2. The concept is key to sucess and the bonus is having two people who know what they are doing backing this. Basing it around a already popular site will make users feel comfortable.

  3. This idea is fantastic and will definitely bring about a positive change to education. This e-learning overhaul will also help to make teachers jobs easier, as I can imagine how helpful it will be for teachers to be able to communicate with each other and other educational professionals, to share and exchange information on different subject matters. I can see the benefits for secondary school kids as well, but not so much university students as stated by Isaac.
