Driving and tweeting?
Driving, tweeting and updating your facebook is this a major issue? I believe so looking at some research I found that they have been serious incident that have occurred when using a smart phone whilst driving. Driving requires using concentration I believe that using a smartphone can cause major distraction such as using it to check mail, texting or even looking at maps.
“48% of drivers aged 18-24 had admitted to smartphone distractions, with 24% using an iPod to listen to music, 23% reading emails and 22% checking Google maps” (gurdian)
Year 2010 a well-known celebrity surgeon past away due to a car accident just after she” tweeted”
“New reports indicate that Dr. Frank Ryan, plastic surgeon to Heidi Montag and other celebrities, was tweeting just before his fatal car accident on Monday”(masahble)
This shows that how much of a hazard it is whilst using your smart phone when driving, this could be yourself using your smart phone to text, check emails, Facebook and tweet. Many people say that it’s not a hazard and that the brain can multi task, but is this true?
“Multitasking is a myth. Human brains do not perform two tasks at the same time. Instead, the brain handles tasks sequentially, switching between one task and another. Brains can juggle tasks very rapidly, which leads us to erroneously believe we are doing two tasks at the same time. In reality, the brain is switching attention between tasks – performing only one task at a time.”
Do you think using your phone whilst is a hazard? Or Do you think that you can multi task ?

I personally believe that there are many situations in life where we must reserve our full concentration. For instance, whilst driving, multi-tasking can be considered an action that not only puts our life in a life-threatening situation, but the lives of others around us. Multi-tasking should be kept to a bare minimum or not at all. This idea calls into question our addiction to social networking sites and applications. Due to a need or obsession to tweet, update a status or check-in, hands free social networking applications and tools are beginning to appear. This could make you wonder whether the need to be constantly social is becoming so ingrained into us, that even in instances like driving where full concentration is needed, we are prepared to put ourselves and others at risk just to make an update that we are indeed driving.

Good Post! I guess using any phone whilst driving is a hazard. But, perhaps using a Smartphone whilst driving is even more of a hazard simply because of the more modern and interesting feature that it provides. There are many times whilst out that I have seen the potential for a serious car accident simply because the driver of the car is trying to focus on the road whilst texting, talking, tweeting etc. Hence, this is the reason why it is illegal to be engaging with your smart phone whilst driving. This begs the question is tweeting about your life more important than your actual life?
ReplyDeleteI believe that many people are addicted to these online social websites, i personally know some one who was driving his car and decided to take a picture of a car numberplate something that amused him and ended up posting it facebook at the same time he was driving.
